Saba

THIS RUG'S STORY: 

Saba comes from the Arabic name meaning "soft breeze". Also, the word Saba has Quranic roots and other indirect meanings like "youthfullness" and "the pouring of water". I thought with the color palette of this one, the name fit it perfectly!

The faded blue mixed with purple does feel youthful - I could see this one in a kids room. From time to time I'll come across a blue Beni M'guild, but rarely does it have the minimal pattern. 

The Beni M'Guild tribe originates from the Middle Atlas Mountain region in Morocco. These rugs typically feature higher dense pile and intricate symmetrical pattern that is characteristic of this mountain tribe. These rugs were used often used as blankets or too sleep on, and to provide warmth during the harsh winters.

ABOUT MOROCCAN RUGS:

Each vintage Moroccan rug is hand woven and knotted by Berber women of the tribal region specified. This level of craftsmanship can take up to weeks or months to complete a single rug. Weaving techniques have been passed down through the generations. The patterns, designs, and colors vary with each rug, weaver, and tribe – so each piece is truly a unique work of art and 2 pieces will never be the same. Often these rugs have been handed down through the families who created them, and have been uncovered from the mountain and rural areas of Morocco.
