THIS RUG'S STORY:

Meaning "simplicity" in Arabic, this vintage Beni Ourain has the classic style. He is visibly distressed from years of use and is a bit thinner with low pile, but his authenticity levels are off the chart!

This rug was higher pile at one time, but has been worn down with decades of use. It was woven in the Middle Atlas mountain region in Morocco, where temperatures can change drastically. These pieces are significant to Berber culture as the higher pile kept members of the family warm. Traditionally these rugs were not used purely for decorative purposes, but more commonly as blankets or to sleep on!

Many times the thick plush Beni's are desired, but this one being a true older piece is something becoming harder and harder to find. I hand selected it while on my travels to Morocco back in the Spring of 2019. He's approximately 5x9' and reasonably priced for rugs of this tribe.

ABOUT MOROCCAN RUGS:

Each vintage Moroccan rug is hand woven and knotted by Berber women of the tribal region specified. This level of craftsmanship can take up to weeks or months to complete a single rug. Weaving techniques have been passed down through the generations. The patterns, designs, and colors in each rug vary with each rug, weaver, and tribe – so each piece is truly a unique work of art and 2 pieces will never be the same. Often these rugs have been handed down through the families who created them, and have been uncovered from the mountain and rural areas of Morocco.
