Merzouga

THIS RUG'S STORY:

Merzouga is a stunning piece from the Beni M'Guild tribe. Named after the city in the Sahara, this vintage stunner features the loveliest array of desert tones. But the tribe who made this rug is located in a place far from the desert!  The Beni M'Guild tribe is from up in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. These rugs typically feature higher dense pile and intricate symmetrical pattern that is characteristic of this mountain tribe. This was to provide warmth during the harsh winters!

Now let's talk about its stunning palette! It's a combination of rusty orange, burnt red, and brown with the slightest hints of light pink. The diamond pattern keeps it timeless, but could really fit into almost any style of home.  I saw it on my most recent sourcing trip to Morocco and had to have it!

Beni M'Guilds are wonderful because they are reversible - as you'll see from the pictures, the back side of the rug is very striking too!

ABOUT MOROCCAN RUGS:

Each vintage Moroccan rug is hand woven and knotted by Berber women of the tribal region specified. This level of craftsmanship can take weeks or months to complete a single rug. Weaving techniques have been passed down through the generations. The patterns, designs, and colors in each rug vary with each rug, weaver, and tribe – so each piece is truly a unique work of art and 2 pieces will never be the same. Often these rugs have been handed down through the families who created them, and have been uncovered from the mountain and rural areas of Morocco.
